Accidentally Artificial

I ramble. I digress. I talk to myself in the mirror.

30 Day Knitting Challenge?! Day 15

Day 15: What was your least favorite pattern and why? I’m going to have to go back to the “Pay For” patterns that are so simple that no one should ever buy them. I understand trying to make a living off of being a designer, but if you want to do that, then design something that is impressive and I want to buy. If I see you’re trying to sell a washcloth pattern for $5, then I’m going to laugh in your face and never buy anything from you. Yesterday I saw a pattern for a simple shrug that was $10. Seeing as the average shrug pattern is maybe $5, it was not only double the price of the average, but a project that I could easily make without a pattern. I really don’t like people trying to scam others out of money for simple patterns like that. If you’re going to make a pattern for something simple, offer it for free or $1 but you do that, then provide something else with the pattern like a well designed pattern or different ways to make it fancy or different methods. I don’t want a PDF you made in Word one afternoon that could be made by anyone who has a basic concept of knitting. /rant.

30 Day Knitting Challenge?! Day 14

Day 14: What’s the worst yarn/fiber that you’ve worked with and why? It would have to be either cotton in general or vintage acrylic. Every time I get some from either a garage sale or Goodwill, I quickly remember from my past mistakes. It’s so scratchy and gross and sometimes has a weird oily feel to it. And cotton is just creepy.

30 Day Knitting Challenge?! Day 13

Day 13: Do you have yarn that you love but can’t find a project for? Not really. I think it’s one of those things that the planets have to align and lightning has to strike and unicorns have to grace your stash and tell you what pattern to use that yarn with. I don’t really try to force it and it’s more of a mood thing. Eventually I’ll use my yarn but when I have time and when it wants to be used.

30 Day Knitting Challenge?! Day 12

Day 12: Where do you keep your stash? Post pictures! I would post pictures but it’s boring. I just keep them in tubs and random bags. They aren’t even decorative tubs, just the big blue ones that you get to store winter clothes in. And it’s a total mess right now. I’m trying to use up as much yarn as possible since I’m downsizing living area in about a month and would like to get it all into one tub. We shall see though.

30 Day Knitting Challenge?! Day 10

Day 10: Do you have a favorite pattern or designer? There are a lot of designers out there that just mesmerize me with their work. Stephen West and Cookie A are both designers that I love and hope to be able to afford all of their patterns one day. I also like Tiny Owl Knits. She has a lot of really cute patterns.  I enjoy designers that create something that when I look at it, I’m baffled as to how they made it. If I can look at it and figure it out, I don’t see the point in publishing a pattern, especially if they’re doing it for money. I’ve seen some ridiculous things that people have been trying to sell patterns for. The first washcloth I ever made is a super simple pattern and yet I’ve seen it for sale. That’s just greedy and it makes you a terrible person if you’re trying to swindle uneducated knitters out of money. /soapbox

30 Day Knitting Challenge?! Day 9

Day 9: What fiber or yarn do you love working with? I’m a broke ass college grad/grad student so acrylic is awesome. I’ve knit with other fibers but I just feel comfortable with acrylic because if I mess something up and I have to rip it out, I don’t have to worry about putting more stress on the yarn. And cotton feels creepy. I don’t like knitting with cotton.

30 Day Knitting Challenge?! Day 7

Day 7: Your least favorite? Oh, that would probably be the argyle scarf that I started for my brother a long, long time ago. I didn’t know what I was doing and didn’t do any of the color working correctly. At this point it would probably be best if I started over on it. From the front, it looks nice but the back is all puckered and I cut random strands. It’s a mess.
